Democracy in Crisis: A Discussion at TMI
October 29th, 2024
3405 Atwater Avenue, Montreal
Time: 4:00-5:30 PM

The proliferation of mis- and disinformation on social media, the decline of traditional sources of news, such as local newspapers, and the rise of populist authoritarian movements in places such as Hungary, India, and the United States have imperiled democratic governance throughout the world. How can we best understand this in the current moment? Is the current sense of crisis only passing phase as society adjusts to a revolution in communication or does it testify to a real peril for governments based on the consent of the governed, the fundamental rights of all citizens, and the rule of law?
In this first event of the Democracy in Crisis mini-series, TMI will host a dynamic and thought-provoking discussion at 3405 Atwater exploring these questions on October 29th.
