LE 29 OCTOBRE, 2025 – Medieval and Renaissance Art: Treasures Big and Small – The Thomas More Institute Visits the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

20$

Join the Thomas More Institute for a one-day course on Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance works of art! Led by Anita Grants, instructor of the Thomas More Institute’s Discovering Art lecture courses, the group will explore works from the permanent collection on display in the Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA). Here, paintings and sculptures are presented alongside personal devotional objects, altarpieces, and architectural elements from Northern Europe and Italy. This arrangement highlights not only the artistic changes which occur, but also the differences between works created in Northern Europe and those created in Italy.

The day will begin at the Thomas More Institute (3405 Atwater Ave.) with a consideration of pieces chosen from the Museum’s collection which are, each in their own way, representative of these periods.  This will be followed by a break, during which light refreshments will be served at the Institute. Participants will make their own way to the MMFA, where the class reconvenes in the afternoon. The 24 bus line can be taken from the Thomas More Institute to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Register here.

LE 12 NOVEMBRE, 2025 – Film Screening: Ageless

In collaboration with the Cummings Centre, Thomas More Institute is hosting a screening of the film Ageless. This film addresses the topic of ageism, an issue that individuals may experience in every stage of life. A discussion will follow the viewing. Admission is free, but we ask that you please RSVP here.

Additional film information from the Cummings Centre website:
There is no single story or one path followed as we age. From staying in the workforce well past what is considered retirement age to working tirelessly volunteering for a myriad of organizations, exploring intellectual pursuits and hobbies, or simply enjoying a well-deserved break from daily commitments–the common thread is that no matter what path is chosen, age-based biases come into play across society. The experience of ageism is not exclusive to seniors but rather affects individuals both young and old, across many age groups.

Through a grant provided by the provincial government’s SRQEA program strengthening the vitality of English-speaking communities in Quebec, the team at Cummings spearheaded, developed and produced a documentary focusing on Quebec’s diverse English-speaking communities. Ageism is examined across all age groups through firsthand interviews and experiences. The 45-minute documentary was produced and directed by award-winning Montreal filmmaker Joshua Dorsey alongside Cummings Project Coordinator, Carrie Mazoff, with the goal of providing a visual educational tool to raise awareness of the problem of ageism in our society.
