I suppose I took my first course at TMI several decades ago mostly out of curiosity. It then gave me the opportunity to explore writings that I might never have come across otherwise. TMI continues to do so.

Whether leading, co-leading or participating, scrutinizing literary works over the course of two seasons in a group format elicits a rich exchange of ideas and opinions in a friendly and inquisitive manner– at best even a conversation.

A sense of community grows within a group of a people linked by the common desire to read, to learn, to laugh and to stretch our minds and extend our hearts.

I’ve been a Thomas More volunteer for more than forty years. At first, volunteering was a substitute for the paid work I had recently resigned from. With time on my hands, it was a way to be involved in the community. It wasn’t enough to enrol in the degree program, I needed to contribute for the benefit of others as well as for my own enrichment. It was also a way to have a voice where I might otherwise have been a silent onlooker.

WE ARE LOOKING TO FILL ROLES IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

  • Art Collection Project: Contribute to preserving the Thomas More art collection and displaying it.
  • Fundraising: Make phone calls, seek out sponsors and donors.
  • Classroom support: Greet students and help them locate their readings; provide technical assistance with Zoom for online and hybrid courses. (Technical training will be provided.)
  • Data Entry: Enter data for projects depending on your skills.
  • Events: Greet attendees, help prepare spaces and refreshments, bake, help with clean-up.
  • Planning and Organizing: Assist in the planning of teas, workshops, conferences, etc.
  • Design: Produce informative booklets about opportunities at the Thomas More Institute.
  • Writing and editing: Edit informational materials about the Thomas More Institute, or write articles for our quarterly newsletter, the More News.
  • Researching: Help with grants and foundations, research and write reports, help with funding applications.

    • Once you have filled out the form, you will receive an email from Judy Macdonald, a Thomas More volunteer, who will make an appointment with you to discuss roles, tasks, hours and what you can expect in general. Filling out this form does not commit you to anything right away.
