Seniors Outreach Program

Welcome to the Seniors Outreach Program!

Each year, the Thomas More Institute develops and delivers an original 20-week discussion course designed specifically for seniors. Led by volunteers trained in TMI’s approach to discussion, the course is offered on-site at various residences and senior’s centres in the Greater Montreal area. The goal of the TMI’s Seniors Outreach Program is to foster socialization and intellectual reflection by creating a welcoming environment in which participating seniors can engage with selected readings and with one another.

Fall 2026 Course: Nobel Laureates – Peace, Prose and Poetry

Description: Have you ever wondered what the criteria are for receiving a Nobel Prize? That is one of the questions we will explore as we discuss some of the winners of the Peace and Literature prizes throughout history. During this course, we will travel through the decades, from the inaugural prize presented in 1901 to the present day. On our journey, we will look at individual winners, their acceptance speeches, as well as other writings.
What was happening in the world which influenced the decision of the panel? What can we learn about the winners from their speeches? Why were some choices controversial? Why would someone turn down the prize?
Through explorations of writings, biographies and acceptance speeches, we will aim to learn more about the awarding of this prestigious prize and some of those who have received this honour.
